World Origami Days

This window of origami peace cranes can be seen in Albuquerque at the Open Space Visitors Center as you view the arrival of our winter quests, the Sandhill cranes. Get your own cranes at littlebirddepapel.com/origami-garden-art/.

Celebrate origami by spreading the joy of paperfolding during World Origami Days, held each year from October 24–November 11, a 2-1/2 week celebration of the international community of origami. Help us make origami as visible as possible: teach a class, fold on the bus, give your friends origami, exhibit your models. The possibilities are limitless, just as with origami itself.

October 24 is the birthday of Lillian Oppenheimer (1898-1992), who founded the first origami group in America. She was also one of the founders of the British Origami Society and OrigamiUSA. A dynamic woman, she was delighted in the magic to be found in a piece of paper and wanted to share it with the world.

November 11 is Origami Day in Japan where the paper crane has become a symbol of peace.

SOUP IS LOVE PROJECT

benefiting

1. Make a bowl for the 3rd Annual Soup is Love Project

The Soup is Love Project is a fundraiser for Off Center Arts. No experience is necessary! I always have someone on hand that can help you. A $5 donation covers material costs.

Then in 2020 we’ll have the 3rd Annual Soup is Love reveal to show off the collection of bowls made, sell bowls, enjoy some soup (not in the bowl you buy though!).

As an artist, I love the concept of Off Center Arts because it’s exactly what’s important about art – connecting with people. I hope you’ll join me and the rest of the community in this interactive event.

2. Connect with the Community

I have people of all walks of life join me and connect in the studio. It’s wonderful to see everyone make new friends.

Richard’s Corner

Poem for Make a Dog’s Day OCT 22

There once was a dog named Fritz
who in his old age acted like a ditz,
Wandering. Worrying. Around the house he would piss.
His successor, it seems, is actually a Miss.
Goldie has a wild streak, she wiggles, she barks,
but never never pees inside the house, she just lacks the parts.
