Creating New Art with Dry-Point Etching

Recently, I took a class in dry-point etching to add new techniques to my quiver of techniques for printmaking. It was taught by Ren Adams at New Grounds Print Workshop. I had a lot of fun learning this technique, especially when I got to use dry-point to etch images onto milk cartons! I also learned to do dry-point etching on tin and on plexiglass.

I’ve already incorporated what I learned into the new art I’m taking to my next two art fairs. I call my printing style “hybrid printing” as I combine monotype printing layered with this new drypoint technique. The addition of drypoint etching allows me to add some elements of nature to my abstract designs which I print on 4″ paper squares.

My collage layers are achieved by embellishing some of the printed squares with machine embroidery. I then sew the individual 4″ squares together creating a paper patchwork quilt.

I’ve really enjoyed incorporating dry point etching into my work and the pastel palette I’ve been working with. I’m excited to share my new creations with you at the upcoming art fairs listed in the next section.
