Soup Is Love Project

Sale of Bowls Postponed

Because our last pandemic in 2015 was the e[BOWL]a virus, it seems in poor taste to sell bowls in the middle of our present one. So please
stay home, stay safe, and please keep Off Center in your meditations and charitable contributions.

“Birds of Burque” mural on PAUSE

a message from Andrew Fearnside Art and Design

With the help of Lynx Lightning, Natalie Sept, Remarque co-director Mary Sundstrom Gramer, and site owner Vicki Bolen, the project turned a corner last week [March 16-20]. In just a few days, we finished priming all the big forms and started in with COLOR!

For the first time, we could all see the end of the project. And as has been true throughout the process, I’ve discovered little variations in the design that, to my mind, improve it.

See you in the spring as soon as we are able to continue.

Help Feed New Mexicans Who Need Help

For each original origami piece purchased, I will make a $50 donation to Roadrunner Food Bank, which will provide 250 meals per art piece.

Please share this post and ask your friends and family to sign up for my newsletter, this helps self employed artists during a time when art is not an officially designated essential service, but certainly still holds an important place in our hearts and souls.

Richard’s Corner

Strange Days Indeed

[from John Lennon’s, “Nobody told me there’d be days like this”]

On March 11, people stopped coming to the senior gym that I attend. So, I felt safe working out when there were only 2 or 3 of us there.
I went everyday, but on the 17th, it closed. That plus everyday, theaters were closing their productions, so I had no gym and no plays, so no reason to go anywhere.

Vicki’s first 2 art shows in April also canceled, so for the second year, it will be a much lighter show schedule than we would prefer.

I am not to go out by order of the Governor, and my wife, who has taken over grocery shopping since I am too slow to get out the way of a public sneeze. No virus can stop poetry, so my poetry group met via Zoom on our regular day and we will continue with that until we are un-quarentined .

First Covid era poem:

Strange Days

Our distance, frozen as a disenchanted pumpkin,
a world bereft of culpable intuition,
with a splendor borrowed from a canine disposition,
feeder awareness that melts to the touch.

When life is an unending story of hunger and vanity,
like a dirge of common willingness,
a bedraggled world that was once dropped, and broke,
the rash heat of forgiveness, used as collateral.

As the susurration of time and query,
dripping like a wax pogo stick,
solemn as a devil’s sojourn upon the infinite,
petals that zip open the edges of the moon.

Where we sift our hands in the softer waters,
the luxury of love is reflected in our eyes.
